Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis is a non-invasive laser treatment that works to treat fine lines, wrinkles, scars, large pores and active acne. Laser Genesis can also heat and kill bacteria on and under the skin, preventing future acne outbreaks. The heat penetrates deep enough into the skin, to stimulate the natural production of collagen, which shrinks pores, evens skin tones, and increases the speed of cell turn over. Patients require 3 or more treatments, depending on the desired effects, and there is no downtime. The best part is that the treatments are cumulative, so the more you receive the better your skin will look!

Limelight Treatment

Limelight is an intense pulsed light (IPL) device invented to combat age spots, skin redness, tiny veins and sun damage. Turquoise Springs Medical Spa offers this medical grade, non-invasive, light-based treatment for skin rejuvenation. Limelight offers the advantage of improving skin tone and surface imperfections associated with aging and photo damage.

Limelight treatment from Turquoise Springs Medical Spa is a very sophisticated form of Intense-Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment. Sun exposure and aging can cause discoloration and broken capillaries, causing the skin to appear older or dull. Limelight serves as a very effective means of correction, and the precise tuning options incorporated into the device make it superior to other IPL treatments.

Age spots appear as darker tan, brown, or black spots, of varying sizes, typically appearing on the face, hands, shoulders, upper back and arms. Most age spots spots are harmless, and are simply areas of higher concentrations of skin pigment that have developed due to sun exposure and genetic factors. If your parents have developed sun spots, it is likely that you will too, even if you have consistently protected your skin from sun damage by applying sunscreen. Excessive exposure to the sun’s rays reduces the natural ability of the skin to repair itself. As it attempts to do so, a pigment called melanin is secreted – the body’s attempt to shield the skin from further damage. Modern laser technology such as Limelight can now remove these spots, and restore a more youthful appearance to the face, hands, or other body part that has unsightly sun spots or age spots. Limelight is perfect for the patient with both red and brown discoloration.

Immediately following a Limelight treatment, brown spots will start to darken and skin may appear slightly red. The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours. Make-up can be applied to cover the redness. Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will take on a granulated appearance, flake, and fade. As the complexion improves, redness or tiny veins will also improve.

Frequently Asked Questions

u

What’s the difference between Laser Genesis and IPL Limelight?

Laser Genesis is a non-ablative laser using a 1064 Yag beam to stimulate tissue with heat to reduce wrinkles, stimulate collagen and reduce inflammatory redness from sun damage.

The Limelight IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) laser uses broad band light to reduce discoloration, sun damaged pigment spots, and stimulate the tissue to reduce redness and promote healing from sun damage.

u

Is there downtime after these treatments?

There is very little downtime with non-ablative laser and light treatments. Laser Genesis and Limelight IPL are such non-ablative treatments. Laser Genesis is known as the “lunch time facial”. Ablative and fractionated treatments have more downtime but your doctor will make you aware if you should schedule well ahead of special events for more ablative therapies. It is always important to protect your skin from sun immediately after a treatment. Sun screen, sun screen, sun screen. And bring a hat or cap to the treatment to wear home.

u

How long does the treatment take?

It depends on the area being treated and how many passes are necessary. It might take 15 minutes for a small area or as much as an hour for an extensive treatment. Your clinician will always explain the plan of treatment prior to starting the procedure.

u

I have sensitive skin. Will this hurt my skin?

It is important you let your doctor know so a spot test can be given to see you your skin reacts. The clinician will start with low energy administered gently to see you how your skin reacts. You may be asked to pre treat with a topical cream for several weeks before the actual treatment is given.

u

Are their requirements for pre- and post-sun exposure?

Yes. No exposure to direct sun 3 days prior to the treatment and immediately after the treatment. Use sunscreen immediately after the treatment for the trip home.

u

How often can they be done?

Most treatments as done no sooner than one to two weeks apart. The Limelight IPL and Laser Genesis can be done at the same time or same clinic appointment if your doctor feels it is appropriate.

u

I have melasma (pregnancy mask). Can I still have this treatment?

Melasma can be made worse by heat energy treatments. You may need to be treated for up to six months with oral and/or topical medications before light and laser treatment would be appropriate. Melasma is a difficult problem but not impossible to treat if you have patience. Patience is the most important tool to bring to the battle against melasma.
