Health and Weight

Have you ever wondered…

what role nutrition plays in gaining and losing weight? Nutrition, the intake of food for the nourishment of the body, helps to maintain the body’s health and weight. When we make a plan or goal to lose weight, making changes to our nutrition is often overlooked and more focus is centered on exercising and burning calories. The best thing we can do when starting a weight loss plan is to focus on what we eat. Obesity is a wide-spread problem in the U.S. It is linked to over-consumption of processed foods, complex carbohydrates, and sugary foods. Studies have shown that obesity can be managed with a well-balanced diet.

A person is considered obese with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or more. It is ideal to have a BMI ranging between 20 and 24. A BMI of 18.5 or lower is considered underweight. People suffering from obesity often times also suffer from illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Studies have shown that obesity can be managed with a well-balanced diet and an exercise program tailored to your needs.

Often times…

it is a misconception that eating less is required in order to lose weight. In actuality, the word “less” relates to the type of food, not necessarily the amount of food one should eat. We need to eat fewer processed carbs, processed sugar, and complex carbohydrates. This means spending a little more time in the kitchen, procuring and preparing fresh foods like nutrient-rich vegetables and organic proteins like grass-fed beef, free-range chicken, or fresh Atlantic. If being underweight is your struggle, eating a well-balanced diet is needed for proper weight gain. You also need an effective exercise routine, focusing on building muscle.
